Das Assassin's Creed 2 nun fertig ist, sieht man nicht nur in den Händlerreagalen, sondern auch schriftlich in Form eines neuen Blogeintrags von Skriptschreiber Corey May.

In diesem berichtet er über die Spielwelt, dass neue Datenbanksystem sowie die neue Abwechslung im Spiel. Der zweite Textabschnitt erthält vom Autor eine eindeutige SPOILERWARNUNG. Wer auf Nummer sicher gehen will, kann die drei übrigen Abschnitte über "Weiter" in dieser News lesen.

So we’re done. It’s been two years (actually six if you factor in the first game) since we embarked on this insane adventure. Now the game is out there for you to all experience. And I hope you do. Everyone’s worked so hard and done so much to ensure AC2 surpasses the first in every possible way. So today I’m supposed to talk about my favorite things in the game, so here goes:

1. The World. Between the world team, the level designers, the sound team, the artists, the modelers, the animators (and on and on), the AI dialogue writer, I think the team has succeeded in creating a living, breathing, and cohesive world. It’s awesome to stroll through the streets of our virtual Renaissance Italy watching the citizens interact with the world and each other. It’s little things, really. Simple things. The way you see a guy touching up brick work. The hand gestures as citizens talk to each other. The passage of the sun and moon. The occasional thief who attempts to rob you. I’m not claiming we’ve created a perfect simulation, but all things considered, it’s pretty incredible to just let go of the control and watch the “world” go by. I think this is a tremendous accomplishment.

3. The Database. It’s a brilliant (and totally optional) way to broaden your experience (and even pick up a bit of history!)

4. The Variety. I know. We won’t shut up about it. How much variety there is in the game. But seriously – play it. You’ll see. Nevermind the main quest. There’s a dozen different things to do – most of it tied back into the story. Goodbye flags! Collect Assassin Seals instead. In addition to awesome platforming sequences, you gain special seals that unlock… Well, most of you already know. For those that don’t – go find out! Codex Pages? They don’t just boost your life and give you access to blade upgrades. Read them once they’ve been deciphered to see how the Assassin Brotherhood has evolved over the years. Over 20 pages of entries written by Altair himself! And then there’s all the various side missions – like assassinations. Visit a pigeon coop, get a name – and head out to take a life. Each of these is a mini mission with its own setup and story. There’s so much to see and do in the game – but it’s up to the player if they want to dive down those rabbit holes. Very little is forced on you. And I think that’s one of the big draws of an open world game. Discoveries. Decisions. It even touches the HUD (which you can flip on and off). We gave the game a linear narrative and then instead of calling it a day went in and added hours and hours of content and gameplay and then handed it to the player and said YOU decide what to do with it. How to do it. When to do it. IF you do it at all.

I’m gonna quit before this starts to look like something you’d find on the back of the box. But really it’s been an incredible week. The response from our fans has been great! Even better – the response from many AC 1 haters has been positive. It makes the hard work, the 7 day weeks, the sleepless nights all worth it. We listened to what you had to say. And I’m excited for everyone who hasn’t yet had the chance to dive in and experience it for themselves!
